Celestial Seasonings Honey Lemon Ginseng Green Tea Review

This tea is marketed as giving you an “energizing boost”, as could be expected from any green tea, never mind one that also contains ginseng – you know you're getting something that your body will thank you for when you hear either of those terms bandied about! Celestial Seasonings Honey Lemon Ginseng Green Tea is packed full of natural flavorings like green tea, honey, ginger, licorice and lemon, and it really does impact the tastebuds like a fresh morning wake-up call. According to Celestial Seasonings: "This energizing boost begins with a vital core of fine green tea, fortified with highly prized Siberian Ginseng. The natural flavors of soothing honey and enlivening lemon give this blend its smooth, yet complex taste. Roots of licorice, ginger and roasted chicory add even more body to the brew. What an enjoyable, delicious way to shake the sleepy fog from your body and mind!"

Ginseng tea and green tea are both, of course, accepted as healthy drinks in their own right, because of the natural medicinal qualities possessed by each tea. Ginseng, if you're not aware of the concept, is a slow growing plant with a fleshy root, believed to have many energy-giving properties and healing qualities. Although it is normally not advised as a complete and ultimate cure for illnesses or diseases, it is nonetheless highly recommended as a preventative measure. Studies have shown that regular ginseng consumption can increase the body's resistance to stress thanks to its antioxidant and anticarcinogenic content. Ginseng tea is a common method of providing the body's regular intake of ginseng, and is made using the fleshy part of the root of the plant.

Celestial Seasonings Honey Lemon Ginseng Green Tea is pretty much just as the company itself describes it. Made from a green tea base, it contains Siberian ginseng root, roasted chicory root, ginger root, orange blossoms, lemon verbena, licorice root, and dried honey. There is some caffeine content, but that's true of all green teas. Decaffeinated versions (with a few exceptions) don't tend to be so good – whether in terms of taste or in terms of health benefits – due to the loss of many essential properties of the tea leaves during the decaffeination process. Don't worry – it contains less caffeine than a soda or a cup of coffee, and is way better for you!

This tea has a mild aroma, with an absence of the sometimes overpowering leafy green scent that can come from many green tea products. Instead, the light fresh scent of the green tea leaves is mingled beautifully with a pleasant smell of lemon. The infusion provides a wonderful, full flavor with a refreshing, lingering aftertaste. The tea is almost sweet, which is unusual for green teas (with the purer varieties being notoriously bitter, especially if not brewed carefully!), a pleasing effect of the honey flavor. The lemony taste is beautiful, not too strong, but with enough of a presence to meld perfectly with the green tea taste. If you are new to drinking green tea, or prefer flavored varieties, then this one is well worth a try.
