Green tea is actually not recommended for pregnant women at any time during the pregnancy. It has a compound in it called epigallocatechin gallate that blocks the body from using folic acid, which is important to cell division and thus growth of the child during pregnancy.
It also has lots of caffeine, which can increase the risks of miscarriage if you have too much during pregnancy.
You also should not be drinking green tea if you are breast feeding an infant, because the caffeine can cause some serious problems such as anemia or iron deficiency.
The evidence and research on this is kind of spotty and inconclusive, and green tea is not as dangerous as alcohol or tobacco obviously, but it's still a good idea to avoid it because of the potential risk.
