Mighty Leaf Mountain Spring Green Tea Review

Mighty Leaf has a great reputation in the world of green tea. This Mountain Spring Jasmine Green Tea doesn't let them down – it's absolutely delicious! Jasmine teas can run the risk of being a little bit “too much” for some people. Maybe it's a matter of personal taste, but the floral aroma that makes the tea seem more like a garden of flowers in bloom than a beverage can be a bit overpowering in some varieties. Jasmine tea is made by mixing jasmine blossoms with freshly picked green tea leaves, so that the scent and flavors of the blossoms are imparted on to the leaves. Some companies like to leave the blossoms in with the tea mix for ornamental purposes. Others prefer to remove the blossoms, leaving only the tea leaves with their new jasmine scent. Neither of these is necessarily better than the other – a tea having the blossoms still in it is no indication of its quality at all. It's purely decorative, and makes no difference to the flavor of the tea.

The Mighty Leaf Mountain Spring Jasmine Green Tea comes in bagged form, which is generally not the best way to make your green tea, as regular tea drinkers will be aware. However, in this case, it's possible to overlook that caution – primarily because the tea leaves are really large, and nothing like the cut up leaves or piles of unappealing dust that you'll find in so many teabags. These are really high quality leaves, and the teabags themselves are actually very large, similar to pyramid teabags in shape, meaning that the water flow and the room for movement is optimized. This is really not much different from a loose leaf tea, so don't be put off by the fact that those great leaves are in a bag!

Mighty Leaf says that this tea is “made of smooth China green tea leaves naturally scented by layers of Arabian jasmine buds. With an intoxicating aroma and a piquant yet rounded cup, Mountain Spring Jasmine is our twist on a Chinese classic."

It smells divine. Jasmine tea is primarily noted for its aroma, so that's the first test for any jasmine tea – if the aroma isn't good, it's already failed in its mission! The fragrance here, however, should leave you with no concerns. Flowery, summery, and fresh, it's like sitting in a flower garden if you close your eyes and imagine.

The flavor, too, is excellent. It's not as overpowering as some jasmine teas can be, but instead it has a moderately strong floral flavor which lingers in your mouth in a delightful aftertaste. If you normally enjoy jasmine tea, then this one won't be a disappointment – it gets the flavor, the aroma, and the balance of strengths all just right, and is so delightful to drink that you'd never know that it came from a teabag. Those who aren't generally fond of jasmine teas probably won't be particularly enthusiastic about this one, but anyone who likes floral or herbal teas as a rule can't fail to be impressed.
